Size Guide

Current offered tee: white Bella + Canvas 3001

The current catalog uses a white adult short-sleeve crewneck with side-seamed construction. Offered sizes are S,M,L,XL and2XL. The measurements below are manufacturer garment measurements in inches, not body measurements. Compare a tee laid flat that you already like. Flat chest width is measured across the garment; it is not the circumference of your body. Length is from the high point of the shoulder.

The right size makes the shirt. This guide shows you how to measure and choose sizes for Teetopia tees, long sleeve tees, hoodies, sweatshirts and hats, for one person or a whole reunion. Exact measurements can differ between garments and designs, so the size details on each product page are the final word; this page teaches you how to compare them with clothes you already love. Questions? Email support@teetopia.shop and we reply within 24 hours on business days.

Sizing at a glance

  • Best method: measure a garment that already fits well and compare it with the product page.
  • Two numbers matter most: chest width (armpit to armpit) and body length (shoulder to hem).
  • Between sizes? Go up for comfort, layering or kids who are growing.
  • Hats: most are adjustable one size; check the product page.
  • Wrong size? Return within 60 days of delivery with a free label; refund within 7 days of receiving it.

What you need

  • A flexible tape measure, or a piece of string and a ruler.
  • A flat surface such as a table or a clean floor.
  • A garment of the same type that fits the person the way they like: a tee for a tee, a hoodie for a hoodie.
  • For group orders, a shared list where everyone writes their name and size.

Measuring a t-shirt or long sleeve tee

  1. Lay it flat. Put the tee face up on the table and smooth out wrinkles without stretching the fabric.
  2. Chest width. Measure straight across from one side seam to the other, about one inch below the armpits. This is half the chest circumference of the garment.
  3. Body length. Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the bottom hem.
  4. Sleeve length (long sleeve tees). Measure from the shoulder seam down the outside of the sleeve to the cuff, or from the centre back of the collar to the cuff if the product page uses that method.
  5. Compare. Open the product page and find the size whose chest width and length are closest to your numbers.

Measuring a hoodie or sweatshirt

Use the same flat-lay method as for a tee. Measure chest width just below the armpits and body length from the highest shoulder point to the bottom of the ribbed hem, without stretching the rib. For sleeves, measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. Hoodies are usually cut with more room than tees, and the fleece adds a little bulk, so if you love a snug hoodie, compare numbers carefully; if you love an oversized one, the next size up is often the answer.

Measuring your body instead

No garment handy? Measure the person instead:

  • Chest: wrap the tape around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms, keeping it level and snug but not tight.
  • Height and build: note the person’s height; taller people may prefer a size with more length.

Body measurements are smaller than garment measurements, because clothes need room to move. If the product page lists garment measurements, choose a size whose chest circumference (twice the chest width) is comfortably larger than the body measurement. If you are unsure how much room to allow, measure a favourite shirt instead; it is the most reliable way.

Measuring for a hat

  1. Wrap a flexible tape around the head, just above the ears and across the middle of the forehead, where the hat will sit.
  2. Keep the tape level all the way round and snug, not tight.
  3. Note the number and compare it with any size range on the product page.

Most Teetopia caps have an adjustable back strap or snap and are sold as one size that suits most adult heads. The product page notes any hat that fits smaller or larger. For children, check the product page for youth options.

Choosing sizes for kids and youth

Many designs come in youth sizes. Kids grow quickly, so for a shirt that should last beyond one event, the bigger size is usually the better choice. Measure a shirt the child wears now and compare it with the youth sizes on the product page. If a youth design is not available in a large enough size, a small adult size may work for older kids; compare the chest width before deciding. Write each child’s age next to their name on your group list so you can sanity-check sizes.

Sizing a group order

Group orders are where size mix-ups multiply, so a little organisation goes a long way:

  1. Collect sizes in writing. Ask each person, or each household, to send their size by message. Do not guess for adults.
  2. Share this guide. Send the link so everyone measures a favourite shirt the same way.
  3. Note youth and adult clearly. “Youth M” and “Adult M” are very different sizes; write the prefix every time.
  4. Build the cart in list order and paste the “name – size” list into the order notes at checkout.
  5. Check before paying. Count the sizes in the cart against the list.

Example: the Garcia family reunion list read “Grandpa – Adult 2XL, Grandma – Adult L, Dad – Adult L, Mom – Adult M, Tia Rosa – Adult S, Leo (9) – Youth M, Mia (6) – Youth S, Ana – Adult M, Sam – Adult XL”. Nine tees, nine lines in the notes, everyone in the right size.

Unisex, women’s and youth fits

Most of our tees, hoodies and sweatshirts use a unisex fit: a straight cut sized to fit everyone. Women who prefer a closer fit often choose one size down in a unisex tee, while others prefer their usual size for a relaxed look. Where a design is also offered in a women’s or youth cut, the product page shows it as a separate style option with its own sizes. Always compare the measurements on the product page rather than relying on the size label alone.

Your measurement worksheet

Copy this into a note on your phone and fill it in before you shop. It takes five minutes and saves a return.

Use the same unit as the product page. If the product page shows inches and you measured in centimetres, divide by 2.54.

Choosing a fit for the occasion

  • Race or charity walk: a tee that is not too long or loose is more comfortable to move in; stay close to your usual size.
  • Reunion or trip: comfort wins over a long day; many people choose their usual size or one up.
  • Holiday photos: matching sweatshirts look best when nobody is swimming in theirs; size each person individually.
  • Work crew: think about what goes underneath. A hoodie over scrubs or a work shirt may need one size up.
  • Sleep shirt or lounge tee: size up for a relaxed fit.

Sizing a gift

Buying for someone else without asking? Borrow a shirt from their laundry pile, measure it flat and put it back. Or ask a partner or family member to measure one for you. If you cannot measure, a hoodie or sweatshirt is more forgiving than a tee, and a hat is usually one size. And if the size is still wrong, the recipient can return it within 60 days of delivery with a free label, with the refund going to you.

Keeping the fit after washing

Cotton-rich garments can relax or tighten slightly with washing and drying. To keep the fit you chose:

  • Wash inside out in cold water.
  • Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry. High heat is the main cause of shrinking.
  • Skip bleach and do not iron directly over the print.
  • Hats are spot-clean only; never put them in the dryer.

If the size is not right

It happens, even with careful measuring. You can return any item within 60 days of delivery, including personalized items, and we send a free return label even for a change of mind. The refund is issued within 7 days of us receiving the return. The quickest way to the right size is to start the return and place a new order for the new size at the same time. Read the Returns & Exchanges Policy for the steps.

Size questions we hear often

I am between two sizes. Which one?

For tees you will wear on their own, pick the size closest to your favourite shirt. For hoodies, layering, sleep shirts or growing kids, pick the bigger one.

Do sizes run the same across all designs?

Garments can differ, so check the size details on each product page, especially when mixing tees, hoodies and sweatshirts in one order.

Can you tell me which size to order?

Yes. Email us the chest width and length of a shirt that fits well, plus the product you like, and we will suggest a size.

Will my name print smaller on a small size?

Text is sized to fit the print area of each garment, so very long names may print a little smaller on youth sizes. Short names stay bold on every size.

Does a long sleeve tee fit like a short sleeve tee?

Usually the body is cut the same, with longer sleeves added. Compare the chest width and, if you have long arms, the sleeve length on the product page.

Can I mix sizes and styles in one order?

Yes. A family order can include youth tees, adult hoodies and a hat for grandpa. List each item with its size and name in the order notes, in cart order.

What if the product page lists sizes only, without measurements?

Email us before ordering with the product name and your measurements, and we will help you choose.
